Intensive Portfolio Courses are available in Galway, Dublin and Clare during mid-term breaks and summer holidays, and are held over a 4 day period at our studios. We also hold a weekly after-school Portfolio Preparation session 4pm-7pm every Tuesday during term time at our Galway branch. This enables students to familiarise themselves with the NCAD Brief and to really get to grips with the work involved.
This intensive workshop has been designed for students who are applying to art college and, in particular, to The NCAD, Dublin. The course is run by Mark D-Smith, who has been involved in the design industry for over 25 years. A BA graduate of Camberwell School of Art in central London, he was Portfolio Consultant for The Association of Illustrators (a governing body for professional illustrators in the UK) where he advised artists and working illustrators on the design and make-up of their portfolios.
Mark has familiarised himself with the entry requirements of the major art colleges of Ireland and specifically with the NCAD brief. He helps students to understand the language, criteria and expectations this challenging brief requires. Past students of this course testify to his motivational and gently encouraging approach to teaching.
Students are encouraged to work in new mediums and to experiment with alternative image making processes. Students are welcome to attend for any amount of days to simply ‘top-up’ or fine tune their existing portfolio.
